A wolf among sheep...

I took the 'Bird to Atco Raceway on 3/20/04 to get a baseline on it.  The air inlet silencer was still in, the fuel filter was horribly clogged, i was running deteriorated junk yard spark plug wires,  the wrong spark plugs, and my original cap and rotor were all carbon tracked and the contacts were worn.  I was also in dire need of a trans work as it is slipping and occasionally dropping out of gear altogether.

I ran at the track I with skinny stock 215/70R14's on.  I also had the stock 2.73 "open" rear gears.  Dancing off the line was difficult.
OK, enough excuses, here's my best e.t. out of three runs for that day.

July 7, 2006.  I have since added an MSD Blaster ignition coil, MSD 8.5mm wireset, a Walbro 190lph fuel pump(orignal pump died), and a set of FRPP 3.73 gears.  When I had the gears done, I also had the factory Traction-Lock unit rebuilt and packed with an extra clutch.  Here come the times...

Best run

330'- 6.153

I was running 10yr old BFG Advantage GT (215/70) on a steel 14" rim in the rear.  Keep in mind this was all done on a sweltering 84* night.  Amazingly, on the last run (my best), the dinky little tires hooked like glue.  Go figure.

Okay, got the 'Bird out again on 6/28/05.  It was a sweltering 86 degrees and humid as could be.  Since my last posted outing, I have upgraded to an 8.8" mustang rear with 3.08 gears, 265/50R15 tires on the rear, full length headers.  I also rebuilt the entire front suspension and added new shocks and struts.  The new shocks and struts hurt more than anything because I couldn't get ANY weight transfer and my 60' times suffered.

Best run:

R/T- .550

60ft- 2.370
330ft- 6.559
1/8th- 9.923 @ 73.58
990ft- 12.734
1/4mi- 15.252 @ 92.78

My next run I ran a much better 2.30 60' time but I hot-lapped the car and the AOD didn't like it too much, the shifts got a little softer and my mph dropped to 92.14.  With good traction and air condition like I saw in March, 14.8's would have been mine...this car has already gone 14.9's @ 94mph w/o the headers and stock sized tires, but being as I lost the timeslip, I cannot document it.

My final trip to Atco Raceway with this car....March 20, 2007.  Since my last trip, I've added a Flex-A-Lite electric fan and an underdrive crank pulley.  For track use, I was running 26"x8.5"x15" M/T E.T. Drags on 15" Centerlines in the rear and 165/75R15's up front on 15"x4" Centerline rims.

It was a dangerously windy night that required a lot of "driving" on the big end.  There was also a pretty steady 20mph headwind with gusts of 35mph.  The car ran very consistent 2.12X 60' times, with my best being a 2.110 on another run.  Two days later, while passing someone at 5200rpm in 2nd gear, the crank snapped...catastrophic failure.  Not too bad for an engine with 300k miles on it.
